Albufeira itself is like something out of the movies. The Old Town and its cobbled streets are perfect for chilling out in, as are the vast golden beaches of the Praia de Marinha. And when the sun sets, the strip lights up. Much like Spain's famous resort towns, Brits are always well catered for here and an Albufeira stag do could be a great alternative if everyone has already been to the Costa Del Lads.
Getting around
You won’t have much difficulty getting around in Albufeira. Key to remember that the city is split into two. The Old Town, full of traditional Portuguese restaurants and bars where a lot of families make for, and the New Town, a hive of hedonism and debauchery, where stag and hen groups pile out of their hotels and apartment complexes down to the Praia da Oura beach, or into the buzzing bars and clubs that line the legendary Strip.
West of Albufeira you’ll find the marina - this is where you want to make for if you’re looking for boat trips, deep sea fishing or dolphin-watching.
Albufeira is very walkable, and mostly pedestrianised, though there is a good bus network, Giro, that serves the city. You can also pre-book, or flag down, the reasonably priced taxis.
Everything you need is within walking distance, and when you book activities out of town, such as a round of golf at one of Albufeira’s many world-class courses, we can arrange convenient and good value door-to-door transfers for you.
The city doesn’t have its own airport, the nearest being Faro which is well-served by budget flights from across the UK. Unfortunately, getting from Faro Airport to Albufeira by public transport is tricky - to get the bus you need to go all the way into Faro itself. So your best bet by far is either to go by taxi (45 minutes, about 45 euros) or dodge the taxi queue entirely by letting us arrange your transfer right to the door of your Albufeira stag hotel. No waiting around in the heat, and you know your ride will be there exactly on time.
Tips and ideas
Let’s start with probably the most important thing you’ll need to know on a Portugal stag do: how to order a beer. “Um imperial” is a beer in a regular glass whereas “uma caneca” is for half a litre. Most Portuguese people tend to order an imperial at a time. And the three beers that you’ll become familiar with are “Sagres”,”Super Bock” and “Cristal”, all of which are delicious chilled, and perfect for any real Cerveza lovers. Although if you like your drinks a little more feisty, order a ‘Medronho’, this traditional Portuguese fruit brandy will put hairs on your chest.
Next in order of importance: the beaches. Praia dos Pescadores runs along the front of the Old Town, and is long enough that you can still find space even in July and August. Praia da Oura is the beach in front of the New Town which gets very busy and lairy in the summer months. There are also loads of other great beaches further out such as Praia da Coelha, Praia do Castelo and Praia do Evaristo.
As with most European beach resorts, your Albufeira stag do activities are naturally focused on the sea. And there are Watersports galore here, from Parasailing to Jet Skiing and water skiing. You will have the Time. Of. Your. Lives.
And of course, the Boat Parties in Albufeira are immense, with onboard DJs, great scenery and booming beats while the sun shines down on your heads. Often the boats will stop off at a deserted cove where you can cool off with a swim, so bring your trunks.
There’s also loads going on inland though. Many of our Albufeira stags like to indulge in a little Golf - there are some fantastic courses in the area where you can sink 9 or 18 holes. We can sort out your transport for you, and clubs are available to hire.
Another very popular activity in Albufeira for stag groups is a Jeep Safari, taking you into the countryside for some rough-and-ready sightseeing. It’s dusty and hot work, you’ll be ready for a few glasses of sangria when you get back. And don’t forget that Albufeira also has an awesome Water Park, which has some amazing slides. A top way to cool off in summer.

Nightlife
Let’s be honest. If you’re booking an Albufeira stag do, then you’re coming mostly for one reason: the nightlife. And believe us, you won’t be disappointed. After chilling out for the day by the beach, you can throw yourselves into the action along the infamous Strip (Avenida Dr. Francisco Sà Carneiro, running through both Montechoro and Areias de São João), with some bars and clubs open all the way until 6am. The action goes on well into the early hours in Albufeira, so we’d suggest easing into it gently with an Albufeira pool party. Located just outside town, this is one of the Algarve’s most stylish beach clubs, and we can arrange for you to have comfortable teak sunbeds waiting for you on arrival, as well as a chilled bottle of champagne to sip as the sun goes down. There are numerous laidback bars along the beaches as well that are ideal for enjoying a beautiful sunset.
Moving on to the Strip, many of the owners of the bars are British expats, so you’ll be right at home from the moment that you walk in. And with tons of Happy Hours to enjoy, you’re certain to have a warm welcome. Some of our favourite locales include McDonnell’s - a classic Irish pub at the head of the Strip. This is where you want to come if your team is playing while you’re away, as it has several big screens showing the sports. A five-minute walk away is Matt’s Bar, which serves up urban and house music, and also features a bucking bronco ride which we don’t recommend tackling after downing a few shots. There is also La Bamba Cocktail Bar, which serves up some tasty as cocktails if you're feeling a little fruity and need something tasty before hitting it hard and dealing with a hangover. Albufeira boat parties often continue on here, and Matt’s does superb boozy brunches designed expressly for stag and hen parties.
Libertos is a touch of class, boasting a spacious outdoor terrace with seating. Come for the signature cocktails, and the chance of spotting a celebrity. Then there is KISS Disco Club, which is an Albufeira institution. Split over two levels, it has four bars, a pumping sound system over which big name DJs play, and VIP areas with table service available, always a winner with our stag groups.

Speaking of clubs, it’s worth mentioning that Club Vida, found at R. Victória Nº3, is one of the biggest and best clubs in the Algarve. There are special DJ performances throughout the year, so check beforehand who is playing. Club Vida attracts thousands of revellers with top-name DJs behind the decks, and is definitely worth the journey over if you want a big night.
Lastly, don’t ignore the Old Town, especially if you want somewhere good to eat that has a more traditionally Portuguese flavour. But don’t expect the rampant hedonism of the New Town either. It’s much more relaxed - a good bet for those evenings when you’re recovering from a heavy night and want to take it easy.

What is the best part of Albufeira to stay in?
Generally, most stag and hen groups will stay in Albufeira’s New Town, with its modern hotels and apartment complexes. The Old Town is lovely, but a lot quieter and late-night rowdiness is not encouraged. The Strip, where you will want to spend your evenings (and early mornings) runs right through the New Town while there is a convenient beach, the Praia da Oura, along the front for relaxing during the day and trying to shake off those hangovers.
What is there to do on an Albufeira stag do?
Albufeira offers a wealth of exciting stag do activities whatever your group is into. During the summer months, you will struggle to find a better party town in Europe, with wild boat parties, mad beach parties and a few cheeky strip clubs you can sneak off to. Many of the venues are used to stag groups so they perfectly cater for them, allowing for big seating areas, plenty of drink deals and hot bar maids. But unlike some other towns in Europe, this party place isn't trashy or overdone, it's got the perfect balance, offering a great place to be during the day before the party begins. There are a range of clubs offering different music options, from drum and bass to rock.
