Barcelona Transport

Listen up amigos! If you're planning a trip to Barcelona for your best mate’s stag do and wondering about the public transport situation, then never fear, as we’ve got all the info you’ll need!

Barcelona is a well connected city, and one with a variety of public transport options available. You can take the metro, buses, trams, and even funicular railways to get around the city. The metro is a great choice for locals and visitors alike. It's efficient, affordable, and covers most areas of the city. Plus, the trains run frequently, so you're never waiting too long.

Prefer a mode of transport that’s above ground? Then buses and trams are your go to! They're easy to use, with clear maps and routes displayed at each stop. Plus, they give you an opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of the city as you navigate your way around.

Now, when it comes to actually getting tickets for public transport, you have a few choices. You can buy single tickets, travel cards that are good for multiple journeys, or T10 tickets which give you 10 journeys across zones 1-6  and can be used across the metro, bus and train. Do be aware that these tickets are not valid for Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 metro stations on line L9 Sud.

If you're planning on using public transport frequently while here in Barcelona, then we’d suggest getting a travel card, as it will save you money in the long run. If you would prefer to get straight to your destination with a more personalised service, then there are of course taxis. However, do be aware that you will be paying far more for a taxi in comparison to public transport.

Parking in Barcelona

We’ll be honest, parking in Barcelona is quite tricky and we wouldn’t recommend driving here - you're here to celebrate after all and don't want to be bogged down with the stress of having to drive around! Barcelona is always bustling and there are limited places to park. However, if you and the rest of the boys are considering a European road trip or hiring a car for the stag do, then we’ve got some tips that might just help you out!

One of the most important to be aware of is that there's various parking zones in Barcelona. There's the green zones, blue zones, and loading/unloading zones. Each one of these areas has its own rules and restrictions, so make sure you look out for signage -  the last thing you want is to incur a hefty fine on your trip.

Now that's out of the way, you'll need to find somewhere to park! This unfortunately can be challenging, but there are options available. This city offers both public and private parking garages, which are generally managed by B:SM manages. So, whether you're rolling in with a car, motorcycle, or even an RV, you should be able find a spot in one of their parking garages.

One of the best bits of advice we could provide is to plan ahead. Check out an online platforms like Parkimeter and ParkVia that allow you to reserve a parking spot in advance. You'll be able to enjoy peace of mind that you'll be parked near your destination without any hassle. If you’re looking for affordable and accessible parking spots in the city, then make sure to have a look at Parclick - these guys are specialists in finding cheap parking options in Barcelona.

Do be aware that Barcelona has operates some traffic and low emission zones in the centre of the city. There's specific rules here, so it's worth reading up on them before hitting the road. We'd say that if your car or vehicle doesn't comply with the Barcelona's low emissions criteria, then it's worth changing your plans.

Generally, we'd advise not to drive in Barcelona and make use of the city's various (and affordable) public transport options instead. It is a stag do after all and you’re here to have fun, so why not just hop on a bus or the metro and soak up the city life?

Types of Accommodation

When it comes to stag do accommodation in Barcelona, you've got plenty of options to suit every budget and preference. Apartments are always a popular choice for groups seeking a home away from home experience. You can find fully furnished apartments with kitchen facilities and living rooms - great for whipping up a tasty snack whenever you want!

There’s also a great mix of hostels throughout the city for those who want to make their money stretch a bit further. Expect plenty of dorm style rooms where you’ll be able to bunk up with the rest of your group. With communal areas too (some will have cafes and bars onsite), there’s even the opportunity to meet other fellow travellers too.

If you’d prefer the style and comfort of a hotel, then Barcelona will have you spoiled for choice. There’s everything from basic, no thrills hotel rooms, right through to things at the more luxury end of the scale. What will you choose?

Accommodation FAQ

Is It Easy To Get Around Barcelona?

It can be a little tricky to travel around Barcelona, while many opt to get the hop-on hop-off bus, which will provide you with a map and unlimited trips all day. Uber operates in the area, while you will see taxi's almost everywhere you go. The structure of the city is also very consistent, working in blocks, so as long as you know which direction you're going, it isn't too hard, but the sheer size of Barcelona can be the biggest surprise for many. With Google Maps, nowadays it's normally easy enough for most to navigate around, just make sure you have roaming available.

Where Should I Stay In Barcelona?

This depends what your main focus is. For example, for many the nightclubs found along the seafront are the main attraction. At the same time, the bustling lanes of Las Ramblas is arguably the most popular area for stags, with many bars located across this street. It should be remembered that the majority of pickpockets are found around Las Ramblas, so just be aware when walking along this street. What activities you have booked and what you want to do with your weekend will shape where you should stay. Sagrada La Familia is a beautiful sight and a central point for many, but it's also a 40 minute walk from the beach and clubbing area, so this might not appeal for everyone. Many of the best activities are located on the outskirts, due to spacing, so if this is the case then you might want to keep this in mind when choosing accommodation. Parc Guell is another popular tourist attraction which catches people out, as that's even further from town, being a hefty 1 hour and 15 minute walk from the beach. For this reason, the Parc Guell should be visited by a taxi or bus rather than staying nearby, unless this particularly appeals to you.

Is It Expensive To Get A Hotel In Barcelona?

Barcelona is relatively expensive compared to other places in Europe, but our team have worked hard to secure the best deals with hotels and apartments that are stag friendly. We can also work to different budgets, so when you speak to our team, let us know what is most important to you with an accommodation, whether that's proximity to a nightclub, a key tourist attraction or price.

Can We Drink At The Hotel?

Many of the hotels in Barcelona have a bar where they would be delighted to accommodate you and your group for drinks. We would recommend not getting too drunk at your hotel bar, as you don't want to be kicked off the premises that you're staying at, so for that reason it can be better to head into town for some drinks.

Will My Hotel Have A Swimming Pool?

When you head to Spain, you tend to think your hotel will have a swimming pool, but this doesn't seem to be the case in Barcelona. The vast majority of the hotels don't have one and the ones that do normally have a tiny pool which would struggle to qualify as one. For this reason, unless you have an extremely high budget, we wouldn't recommend basing your pick on whether it has a pool or not, especially as you'll probably be out most of the day and night making the most of your stag do.

What Are The Best Days To Book?

The weekends are certainly more expensive, so you can save some money by booking during the week, however for the majority this simply wouldn't be possible to get a large group of lads to all take off midweek to Barcelona. At the same time, not all activities are available through the week and the clubbing won't be as intense or late-night as it would be on the weekend, so it is more often than not better to book for a weekend despite the price.

What Are Some Hidden Gems In Barcelona?

One of the tourist attactions that will bring out your inner child is the Gaudi 4D Cinema experience, where you enter the cinema and strap yourself into the seat, before putting on your 3D glasses. You then watch a short movie (around 10 minutes) flying you through the streets of Barcelona, with some splashes and wind blowing everywhere, the team here at TheStagCompany loved the experience and can't recommend it enough. The boat parties that we offer are brilliant fun, offering food and drink while enjoying some time off the main land with your group of mates. Just make sure to pack some sun tan lotion, as the lads will be in the full frontal sun for a good four hours and you know how reluctant some lads can be with sun tan lotion, you don't want to walk around with a group of tomatoes later that evening. There are also a number of themed bars which are great to explore, such as Paradiso, which is a hidden speakeasy bar inside a pastrami shop. The team at TheStagCo had to doubletake if we were outside the right building before asking the staff how we got in. You can get yourself on the guest list, which can be critical if you're heading at a peak time, or if you just want to pop in during the day for a cheeky cocktail then you should be fine just to turn up. If you have any questions around a stag do accommodation in Barcelona, don't hesitate to reach out, we'd be more than happy to help you and ensure you have the best hotel or stag apartment for your wild weekend.
