The bow and arrow has been around for pretty much as long as us humans and has been instrumental in assisting man to make sure there is meat on the table for dinner. Not a lot has changed in its design over the centuries, but then again why would you want to reinvent the wheel? Robin Hood is probably the most famous fictional archer, even perfecting his shot to splitting arrows in two. William Tell was equally skilled but preferred a cross-bow, apples, and shooting at kids.

You and your mates however will get the more socially acceptable and far less weird option of taking aim at targets. There will be a safety and instructional talk before you begin, so make sure you pay attention and take note of any tips. Dependant on your group size you may have to take turns but everyone will be kitted out with the proper equipment (just make sure to wear clothing and outwear suitable for the outdoors). 

Xtreme Archery

If you fancy mixing things up a bit though, how about taking part in some Xtreme Archery on the stag do? It’s a combination of archery and dodgeball and is a newcomer to the stag activity scene that’s ideal for those lads that want an adrenaline packed weekend! You’ll be given a safety briefing from an experienced instructor and provided with all the necessary safety equipment, before being split into teams where you’ll face off across a purpose built field layout.

Each team gets five specially designed bunkers, and five target cones that are placed in front of each bunker which contain a ball. It’s a strategy game based on point scoring, where players will have the chance to shoot at one another with specially designed arrows for a good old fashioned shoot em’ up – but don’t worry, because the arrows you’ll be using have a round rubber tip which absorbs the impact when it hits a player, so you’ll be safe and there’s no chance of severing your mates’ major arteries.

There will be 30 points awarded for each eliminated player and 50 points for a targeted cone. The game ends when either all the players have been eliminated, all cones have been hit, or the time runs out - Let the battle commence!

Will This Keep A Big Group Entertained?

Absolutely, we've tested this activity out with our internal team, visiting our partners across the country and having a crack at hitting the target and we certainly all enjoyed ourselves throughout. Of course, if you'd prefer a more team based option then you can go for the archery tag which is popular on a Cardiff stag do. Another great location for this is a Newcastle stag do, the most popular location for a weekend away in the UK, largely thanks to the unbelievable nightlife, but games like this certainly make it an all-round brilliant place to visit.

You can also set your group some separate games or punishments, such as the loser has to buy the first round that night, or potentially has to wear a fancy dress item alongside the groom. The best shooter maybe gets to set a rule for the night. This can all get a little messy, but just remember that most of these venues don't allow you to drink alcohol while there, unsurprising as you will be firing arrows through the air.
