Berlin stag do guide

Berlin is great if you are looking for

  • A city that’s never boring, with a legendary nightlife scene

  • Never being far from a beer, or a bratwurst!

  • Stacks to do culturally, great parks, beer halls and classic stag activities

Berlin is a thoroughly modern capital, a city constantly pushing the boundaries and driving innovation in culture. Your biggest challenge on a stag do here will be how to fit everything in and still find time to experience the city’s epic nightlife. Which is where our useful stag do guide to Berlin comes in.

The club scene here in the German capital is world-famous, with many places that open on a Friday night and keep going all the way to Monday morning. But Berlin also has lively beer halls, a fascinating history, and perhaps the best kebab shops this side of Turkey, among many attractions to stag groups. We’d recommend a week here on a Germany stag do, but since your time probably only allows you a weekend, our expert Berlin stag planners will ensure you make the very most of it.

Getting around

The Germans of course are renowned for their efficiency, so despite Berlin being a large city you’ll have no difficulty getting around, thanks to a public transport system that runs as smooth as clockwork.

Probably the most important element for stag do’s in Berlin is the U-Bahn, the underground train system. 10 lines; 173 stations; 91 miles of track and trains running every five to ten minutes. The U-Bahn operates ‘til 1am on weeknights, and 24-hours on weekends. As you’d expect, there are detailed maps in every station and on each train. There are no barriers on the U-Bahn, and few inspectors, but don’t be tempted to ride without paying - the locals frown on it, and you can expect a sizeable fine if you’re caught.

Should you want to get around the city quickly or head to the outskirts, the S-Bahn is the overground train system. Berlin also has buses and trams which, though slower, means that the entire city is accessible. And just one single ticket covers all public transport for 120 minutes, which you validate at machines on the platforms. 24-hour passes are also available.

Other ways to get around Berlin include hiring e-scooters - services include Bolt and Lime, or simply walking. This is the best way to discover the distinctive character of each neighbourhood in the city.

Remember too that we can always organise convenient transfers for you, whether it’s for your stag do activities, or between the airport and your Berlin stag hotel. Reliable, good value and friendly, this door-to-door transportation means no hanging around waiting for trains or taxis, so everyone can relax.

Tips and ideas

There’s a wealth of exciting stag activities in Berlin open to you and your friends. One of our most-requested is a Beer Bike tour, where you drink and pedal, while a sober driver / guide handles the steering and takes you from pub to pub. Ideal for those looking to mix a little sightseeing and exercise with their session. Berlin also has a superb brewing scene, and we can organise a Beer Tasting if you’d like to know more - tastings included, naturally.

It goes without saying that Berlin has a traumatic recent past, from World War II through the Cold War, and the partitioning of the city by the Berlin Wall. There are traces of this history all over the capital, from the magnificent Reichstag building, Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie to the amazing East Side Art Gallery on the longest surviving fragment of the Berlin Wall. A few hours of sightseeing around Berlin’s landmarks is a fascinating experience.

Culturally too, Berlin has few rivals, and a Berlin stag do in summer especially is fantastic. From May onwards you can catch open air cinema screenings in many of the city’s public parks. If you prefer being the stars of the show rather than simply spectators, then rock up to Bearpit Karaoke on a Sunday afternoon in Mauerpark. Those with a good singing voices (and the nuts for it) can perform to a supportive crowd from a choice of some 500 songs.

The Tiergarten is Berlin’s best-known park, and it’s huge. There’s a three-mile circuit around which makes for a refreshing walk if you’ve got hangovers you need to clear. Or hang out for a few hours at the lakeside Cafe am Neuen See, which for our money is one of the best beer gardens in Berlin

As for eating out, we’d suggest dinner at Markthalle IX, one of the few remaining covered food markets in Berlin which was saved by a group of heritage-minded locals. ‘Street food Thursdays’ particularly are massively popular, but you’ll get delicious grub here any day of the week - don’t limit yourselves to the bratwurst. There’s also an on-site microbrewery so you can wash it down with some quality pale ales.

Nightlife

If there’s one thing to know about when organising your Berlin stag do it’s this: the nightlife is incredible. But it’s a big city, with several different neighbourhoods for going out in: Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain, Mitte, Oranienstrasse, Kreuzberg, Wrangelkiez - all home to fantastic bars and clubs.

So where to start? We’d recommend a Guided Bar Crawl, led by an attractive local lady or two, who will show you around a series of stag do-friendly bars, ensuring you have no difficulty getting in, and that there’s a drink or two waiting for you at each. This is a great option for your first night in town as it enables you to get your bearings, and remember any nightspots that you like for the following evening.

Berlin is famed for its massive beer halls, where it can feel like Oktoberfest even in mid-July, and you can’t help but be carried away by the atmosphere. Two of our favourites include Brauhaus Lemke Am Alex, just off Alexanderplatz, where you’ll always find an international crowd getting stuck into the booze and food, and the massive Hofbräu München nearby, where the beer is served in huge flagons and the staff are all in their lederhosen. In both places it’s definitely worth booking a table in advance.

Find a wide range of excellent craft beers at Braufactum in the Mitte neighbourhood. They also serve what they claim (and we agree) to be the best sausage in Berlin, beechwood smoked for extra flavour, we’re drooling just thinking about it.  At the Baergarten (no prizes for guessing what that translates as) you can enjoy beats, bres and stonebaked pizzas at this locals’ favourite hangout. And then there’s the Berliner Republik, the beer stock exchange, where after 5pm the price of your ale is dictated by the free market!

Post-pub fare is easy to come by in Berlin, and you’re never far from a good currywurst, or a kebab - some say you’ll find the best kebabs outside of Turkey in Berlin and we’re not going to argue.

Afterwards, many of our groups then like to think about finishing up in a nightclub. And we’ll be perfectly honest here, the clubs in Berlin can get WILD. Many start to get going around 3am and finish around 8am. At least, those that don’t continue on all the way ‘til Monday. With so much choice, why not let us sort your Nightclub Entry for you - it takes all the hassle out of it and means you don’t have to worry about finding somewhere that will accept groups of lads. Just ensure you’re dressed appropriately - ie no offensive fancy dress, and you’ll soon be ensconced in a stag-friendly Berlin nightclub, with the option to reserve a table, and enjoy bottle service too.
